מלכות

מלכות, meaning "kingdom" or "kingship," is the tenth and final Sefirah in the Kabbalistic Tree of Life. It represents the culmination of all the preceding Sefiros and the means through which Divine energy is manifested in the physical world. [1] מלכות is often associated with the שכינה, the Divine Presence in the lower realms. [2] It is the vessel that receives and expresses the Divine will, making it accessible to creation.

Malchus in Seder Hishtalshelus[edit]

In the סדר השתלשלות (Chain of Emanation), מלכות occupies the lowest rung, acting as the interface between the higher spiritual realms and the world of עשיה (Action). It receives from all the Sefiros above it, particularly יסוד, which channels the flow of Divine energy. [3] מלכות is rooted in רדל״א (רישא דלא איתידע), the "Unknown Head," which is the highest point of כתר. [4] This connection to רדל״א gives מלכות the unique ability of יש מאין (creation ex nihilo), a power not shared by חכמה. [5] מלכות דאצילות מתלבשת בכל מלכות של כל עולם פרטי, יורדת אל תוך היכל קודש הקודשים של העולם שמתחתיו. [6]

חסידות emphasizes that מלכות, despite being the "lowest" Sefirah, is essential for the actualization of Divinity in the world. The Rebbeim explain that מלכות has no אור מעצמה (light of its own) but reflects the light of the other Sefiros. [7] This quality of ביטול (self-nullification) is crucial for revealing אלקות in creation. The Alter Rebbe connects מלכות to קבלת עול (acceptance of the yoke of Heaven), highlighting the importance of submission to the Divine will. The Rebbe Rashab explains that even though מלכות draws from זע״א (זעיר אנפין), specifically from תפארת, it is because זעיר אנפין becomes a כתר for נוקבא (מלכות). [8]

  • מלכות: Represents G-d's sovereignty and rule over the universe.פה: מלכות is likened to the mouth, the instrument of speech, as it expresses the Divine will through creation. [9]
  • מלכות: מלכות is referred to as a כוס, receiving and containing the blessings and abundance from above. [10] כנסת ישראל is also called a כוס של ברכה. [11]
  • שכינה: מלכות is synonymous with the שכינה, the Divine Presence that dwells within the world. [12]
  • דוד המלך: King David represents מלכות, embodying leadership and connection to the Divine.
